Hypnosis FAQs

  1. How will I know that I am hypnotized?
Many people cannot tell the difference between a hypnotized state and a normal state. Some people feel relaxed, others feel light, some have tingling in their fingers, and so on. If you're a little skeptical, don't worry. Most clients were a little skeptical at first. What took their skepticism away? They noticed inexplicable changes in their daily habits and behaviors!

  2. What does it feel like to be in a hypnotic state?
This is dependent on each individual. For some people there is very little difference between the hypnotic state and their normal waking state, contrary to the perception of being like a zombie. For others, the sensation is extremely calm and relaxed, just as you feel prior to falling asleep. In most cases subjects notice that their senses are more alert and aware, quite the opposite of what they had expected.

  3. Can anybody be hypnotized?
Yes, anyone can be hypnotized if they want to be. Some clients can be hypnotized in minutes, while others can take a bit longer.

  4. Will I lose control of myself?
Absolutely not! Hypnotherapy is dependent upon the client allowing their subconscious mind to work for them. If the hypnotherapist's suggestions are acceptable and beneficial to the client then the subconscious mind will allow the suggestion to be acted upon effectively. In short, you cannot be forced to do anything that goes against your morals or belief system.

  5. Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes. The hypnotic state occurs naturally for most people but they do not realize it is hypnosis. Have you ever watched a film and found yourself feeling tearful? In effect you have become so engrossed in a film that your subconscious has accepted it as real and it has triggered the emotional response, even though your conscious mind knows that the film is just fiction. This in essence is how hypnotherapy works.

  6. Can I get trapped in the hypnotic state?
No. At any time during the session a client can choose to ignore the suggestions and leave the hypnotic state.

  7. Will hypnotherapy always work?
You are in control of how well hypnosis works. Clients describe the outcomes they expect from their hypnotherapy session and we agree to work together towards those goals. If you want hypnotherapy to succeed, allow it to succeed, and you will be on track to achieve your goals.

  8. Will I reveal too much while hypnotized?
No, you are in control at all times. You will not reveal anything that you would not normally discuss in regular conversation.

  9. I have seen stage shows where hypnotized people did silly things.
Will that happen to me? Absolutely not! When a person goes up on the stage to participate in an entertaining show of hypnosis, they have a certain understanding in mind. They know that they are going to be asked to do a lot of silly things and they agree to do that at some level. If we were to bring the 'star' of the show to the office for a sleep problem, they would not respond to any suggestions that they had responded to when they were in the entertainment setting. You cannot be caused to do anything in hypnosis that you would not ordinarily do. And of course, in a clinical setting, all suggestions would pertain precisely to the goal of your gaining more control in your life.

  10. How will hypnosis help me lose weight?
Hypnosis can help you change your strategies for eating. For most, if you ate only when you were hungry and stopped when you were full, you would not have a weight problem. Exercise patterns will be addressed as well.  Hypnosis programs these quot;correct" eating strategies into the subconscious. This is why our clients report new behaviors that feel "natural" for them.

  11. Can hypnosis really help me kick my smoking habit?
Because smoking is a habit, it is controlled by the subconscious. Hypnosis can help you eliminate the habitual triggers that cause you to light up. This can usually be accomplished in two to three sessions because unlike food, which is required for survival, smoking is severely damaging your body. The mind and body are all too happy to discontinue this pattern immediately. For most, hypnosis creates an effortless transition to the healthful lifestyle of a non-smoker.

  12. Can hypnotherapy cure my phobia?
Yes. As we live life we all experience some forms of negative input to our learning. For example, say a child sees their mother screaming at the sight of a spider, this then teaches the child to be afraid of spiders. This example of single trial learning, where the brain makes a decision after one example, can be used in the positive to release patterns as well.  Many types of phobias respond well to hypnotherapy.

  13. What about self-hypnosis?
At Hypnosis Energy, you will not only be coming in for a few sessions, you will also be trained in self-hypnosis. Learning self-hypnosis is simply learning to harness and control your mind's natural tendency to retreat occasionally into subconscious reflection. Since you have already experienced various forms of hypnotic feelings, Gregg will help you enhance your natural talents and use self-hypnosis to its full potential.
The possible benefits of self-hypnosis are endless and depend mostly on what you want and expect from the experience. Most people report an increased sense of relaxation, self sufficiency, self control, self esteem, and especially a feeling of relief at succeeding in doing something for themselves without dependence on others.

  14. Why don't more people use hypnotherapy or self-hypnosis?
Why don't more people exercise regularly, take vitamins or eat properly? We all know that it is better for us, but the challenges in today's world make all of these activities a secondary thought to getting your work done. It can be a very simple tool that will provide astonishing results, give it a shot!
